2005 Projects from the Reserve For Repairs and Renovaton (Walter Davis Library)

Project Information:

The north elevation of the Reading Room consists of a series of eleven (11) compound projection window walls, which are divided by ten (10) vertical slate-faced walls that terminate at dormer windows. The south elevation of the Reading Room has a veneer of vertically-applied slate that also surrounds windows at each dormer end.

The scope of work that follows takes into consideration all observations made and conditions identified.

Scope of Work

1. North Elevation Projection Windows:

  • Reseal the joint between the tubular framed aluminum system and the adjacent cut limestone window surrounds.
  • Remove and replace all deteriorated sealant at the cut limestone window surrounds.
  • Remove and replace all deteriorated sealant at twelve (12) vertically-applied slate panels, located between each of the projection windows.
  • Reseal the joint between the tubular framed aluminum system and the adjacent vertically-applied slate window surrounds at dormers.

2. South Elevation Dormer Window Wall:

  • Remove and replace all deteriorated sealant between the tubular framed aluminum system and the adjacent vertically-applied slate window surrounds.
  • Remove and replace all deteriorated sealant between the vertically-applied slate along the south elevation of the Reading Room roof.

Not included in this project:

  • Compound aluminum tubular framed windows, located at the east and west elevations
