Project Information: This roof was installed in 1926 (3,400 sqft) at the time of the original construction of this wing. There is a batten seam Terne metal roof over this wing. It is covered with caked-on red roof paint that is peeling and sluffing of the base metal in large flows. The damage is extensive. The lead paint will need to be abated prior to removal of the old roof and installation of the new. Provide lead paint abatement, a new 16 ounce copper roof with new built-in gutters; replace the sheet metal eave and cornice. If these repairs/replacements are not made, then water will continue to infiltrate. As the water infiltration continues, so too does system sister component damage continues. This ongoing damage makes it more and more difficult to locate and repair leaks. The water intrusion adversely affects the research and support functions contained in this building and consume scarce maintenance resources to stretch these systems' lives to the maximum and to continue to make water damage repairs to the building interior .
